Acknowledge reality as it is now so that energy can move from fighting facts toward effective action.
Radical Acceptance is a DBT distress-tolerance skill. Acceptance does not mean approval, agreement, forgiveness or passivity. It means recognising what has already happened or what is currently true.
Worksheet prompts
- What facts am I resisting?
- What thoughts show non-acceptance?
- What does resistance cost me?
- What would acceptance sound like in one sentence?
- What action is still possible?
Example
“I do not like that the application was rejected, and I wish it had gone differently. The rejection has happened. I can review feedback, decide whether to reapply and allow disappointment without pretending the outcome was fair or acceptable.”
Important limit
Acceptance must not be used to pressure someone to remain in danger, tolerate abuse or stop seeking justice, treatment or support. Accepting a fact can coexist with strong protective or corrective action.
